I am still buying too much yarn. New strategy: enjoy the stash as if it's new then maybe will feel less compelled to buy new yarn. Maybe? Days since not buying any new yarn: 5. <br />

<br />
This is a skein I bought at Vogue Knitting Live in New York in January of this year. It is the<br />
Greatest of Ease base by Knit Circus, 80% superwash Merino and 20% Nylon. It is so soft and I really love how it looks in the skein, but am a little hesitant to use it because what if I don't like how it looks knit up? There is only one way to find out. I plan to use it in a shawl, but definitely need to find the right pattern. I was thinking lace, but now I am not so sure. It's very generous in yardage at 600 yards.Merehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16289111250237055565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4251774341258358959.post-56555191602466916832015-10-24T16:07:00.001-04:002015-10-24T16:08:23.190-04:00The Stash is Taking OverAnd it must be stopped. It's a week after the New York Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, and I am making the decision not to buy any more yarn until next year's festival. I am making this declaration for one reason: I have so much yarn that it is literally taking over.<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDxJoqJP6_d9-EgIU5pwAUQvjMg82MlQBZHFqJVFg_gK3YCJ3GDVFGVkkJh75NX0hBisvOZPu-1-VaPAF8aF4hmp48JrBeXOooeY0iI5CB6JjcrCYgAaPy3yukgQLdNkzI91z1KceoRtA/s640/blogger-image--958815856.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDxJoqJP6_d9-EgIU5pwAUQvjMg82MlQBZHFqJVFg_gK3YCJ3GDVFGVkkJh75NX0hBisvOZPu-1-VaPAF8aF4hmp48JrBeXOooeY0iI5CB6JjcrCYgAaPy3yukgQLdNkzI91z1KceoRtA/s640/blogger-image--958815856.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMuGlo4CKb56q5svjVBhhkRJf3dMPrciPj_OHki6FbwCXDiSd6sN83qNbjrRW6ixxQ5f1qtj7SQ-ErjO16AUWI12JhdPGdb1uMepUFsxQLElu9iqlzSFpXIHciszNJry33D8KWVnkz-rE/s640/blogger-image-833062757.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMuGlo4CKb56q5svjVBhhkRJf3dMPrciPj_OHki6FbwCXDiSd6sN83qNbjrRW6ixxQ5f1qtj7SQ-ErjO16AUWI12JhdPGdb1uMepUFsxQLElu9iqlzSFpXIHciszNJry33D8KWVnkz-rE/s640/blogger-image-833062757.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigwSKJl8Sz1MT9J6K2C2URgFLd-EAOZmNJEoaEa8ZrCz7qKqwl3mfekjhWq6JgybIZ9qltg_WzlOM2hlyB7mAlOJfABDYGG5ndOuPVyXsqFyfJF6sekqPKacfQdD_SVFqkDDGNK5wZNxg/s640/blogger-image--611787660.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigwSKJl8Sz1MT9J6K2C2URgFLd-EAOZmNJEoaEa8ZrCz7qKqwl3mfekjhWq6JgybIZ9qltg_WzlOM2hlyB7mAlOJfABDYGG5ndOuPVyXsqFyfJF6sekqPKacfQdD_SVFqkDDGNK5wZNxg/s640/blogger-image--611787660.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This isn't even everything. It's hard to show the scope of the amount of yarn that I have. My sister had asked me to make aprons for her twin little kids. Sophie and Oliver are 2 1/2 years old and they are adorable. She asked me to make these aprons months ago. And I just couldn't tear myself away from knitting. But today, I'm Presidents' Day, I decided let's do this.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ6eY827r3brOYn1pBTCvQqU0pQ9lE2mKvxAPpXARFndyxD7_R0xB8uX7unwWDapS8jWOFeatK37vL3PdOiL8vfipvmeWPnevFhRpG-JHThvn-wCwZyNVeDl-JZMbjdJerYzGXrXtjT0A/s640/blogger-image--700423292.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ6eY827r3brOYn1pBTCvQqU0pQ9lE2mKvxAPpXARFndyxD7_R0xB8uX7unwWDapS8jWOFeatK37vL3PdOiL8vfipvmeWPnevFhRpG-JHThvn-wCwZyNVeDl-JZMbjdJerYzGXrXtjT0A/s640/blogger-image--700423292.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The pattern is called Montessori child's apron by Meg McElwee. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I used stash fabric for both; Oliver's main fabric is Tula Pink's birds and the bees and the rest of the fabric is from the another collection, but I cannot remember the name or the designer. I bought a whole bunch of fabric from the same collection to make quilts and toys for the kids before they were born. </div>Merehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16289111250237055565noreply@blogger.com0Brooklyn Brooklyn40.61889 -74.038495tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4251774341258358959.post-10367613436426571202013-05-28T13:51:00.000-04:002013-05-28T13:52:50.458-04:00City Sampler Blocks 1, 2, and 3<div style="text-align: center;">

I am too obsessed with knitting to even pick up the pieces of the quilt that I laid out on the study floor like a month ago. I took two days of classes at Vogue Knitting Live this weekend at the Times Square Marriott Hotel. I've done nothing today except knit this tiny piece of lace shawl that I've been working on what time completely absorbed with. <br />

This is my haul from the knitting show this weekend. <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO9E6bGXElUEkN88f9Dv8t5LzM_LfELu5DOURHpL4-LnFyGis3t9O3cstqvy8Lz7Tf2ceJU-GWklYP9xD1lSXLG7qD1DJH0lkMoRUWUPWAsDwnbaYbjus6U5Ckru2scxvBbf6zEERRF-g/s640/blogger-image--1043272978.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO9E6bGXElUEkN88f9Dv8t5LzM_LfELu5DOURHpL4-LnFyGis3t9O3cstqvy8Lz7Tf2ceJU-GWklYP9xD1lSXLG7qD1DJH0lkMoRUWUPWAsDwnbaYbjus6U5Ckru2scxvBbf6zEERRF-g/s640/blogger-image--1043272978.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcRe0qaRyMDD_fqLMmatkx83Pn1BAOr71FGcY4tnlz6JF6gv0kvFQt5ARPNYa45-796tFURU2SxLmjlz-GqqClNGHsqyxd72OZUMlOKXKHduD2Ydwa5GEup5dLafZCCBVcYcjYNCZq7AE/s640/blogger-image-1144319362.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcRe0qaRyMDD_fqLMmatkx83Pn1BAOr71FGcY4tnlz6JF6gv0kvFQt5ARPNYa45-796tFURU2SxLmjlz-GqqClNGHsqyxd72OZUMlOKXKHduD2Ydwa5GEup5dLafZCCBVcYcjYNCZq7AE/s640/blogger-image-1144319362.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBC4g-xmJPu-9CYaJ0N0g3jvSvWqAlz94nvutLHE2TVMzlRkiHFljwxIEghwkinowigmdlAkVhMZNKmH2L_WrnavqX4HA0XLayRDW6rFCBIThy8ECY6S1_aIod6iKZmgvNnoHJ0Vu_cvQ/s640/blogger-image--1689594946.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBC4g-xmJPu-9CYaJ0N0g3jvSvWqAlz94nvutLHE2TVMzlRkiHFljwxIEghwkinowigmdlAkVhMZNKmH2L_WrnavqX4HA0XLayRDW6rFCBIThy8ECY6S1_aIod6iKZmgvNnoHJ0Vu_cvQ/s640/blogger-image--1689594946.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv8fiSSlJGUFe7L7BEe_QjFECNtcz-FHxeC-ZUjKwpMPg8s7xOwyE0oW3Iu3FFpuXhCsyhLUX9g17XQWtdQiM-yhh4xvSL1GrM1nDhqOJ3IMC2YBP5WYIEr_JaCOF1oDL2tQXmTw0KLTo/s640/blogger-image--333084965.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv8fiSSlJGUFe7L7BEe_QjFECNtcz-FHxeC-ZUjKwpMPg8s7xOwyE0oW3Iu3FFpuXhCsyhLUX9g17XQWtdQiM-yhh4xvSL1GrM1nDhqOJ3IMC2YBP5WYIEr_JaCOF1oDL2tQXmTw0KLTo/s640/blogger-image--333084965.jpg" /></a></div>Merehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16289111250237055565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4251774341258358959.post-84830158329216348002013-01-01T17:47:00.001-05:002013-01-01T17:47:56.481-05:00New year, new projects!This year it is all about using up the stash. I am making a commitment not to buy any new craft supplies, unless I have saved up for them, of course. Or I use my gift certificate that I got for Christmas from my parents to Brooklyn general. It's all about budgeting in 2013 for me. I have already started by making new placemats and a centerpiece for our dining room table. I made new throw pillows for the living room, and with the leftover fabric I made some placemats. I used leftover yarn from projects and made pom-poms and put them in a glass bowl for the centerpiece. It looks cute and I didn't spend any money. So I'm pretty happy about that.<br />
<br />
I am also trying to use up my fabric stash. So this year I am committing to making a series of scrap quilts. I have started this one which I think is pretty cute from a book called Scrap Republic by Emily Cier. This is where I usually get stuck. I love cutting, and I love arranging all the colors, but then when it comes to the sewing, I get a little tired and stop working. But I can't leave it on the floor forever because Groucho will mess it all up. I will have to turn my attention to it once I am done with the placemats. <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1XRYKpibnnDjVDnQxGWh0PDy6fbB43d9wTYv6nFjnzqe5HIxngIaBo2zOcmRifja2csgdf9qYkLUjO9O6chGygjBk4_rb-hcEtz3DcdjEfy-ClkzzUf6moXST2X-25DFLvwYV1sjtSWM/s640/blogger-image-485365292.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1XRYKpibnnDjVDnQxGWh0PDy6fbB43d9wTYv6nFjnzqe5HIxngIaBo2zOcmRifja2csgdf9qYkLUjO9O6chGygjBk4_rb-hcEtz3DcdjEfy-ClkzzUf6moXST2X-25DFLvwYV1sjtSWM/s640/blogger-image-485365292.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO4DNcUxqxJNuKYHKBRgQNJaC48gNgJSY7E8pvD72hdF4LsJizNhKFYB9ZaRq7zOTPmdv56RAjxZYYh4mi6NF8qTGqyw15IYsyRckp0uSyYyBl0XzFAGbKv6Y_awbQNW6V5xaFwgH9iBs/s640/blogger-image--1790726518.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO4DNcUxqxJNuKYHKBRgQNJaC48gNgJSY7E8pvD72hdF4LsJizNhKFYB9ZaRq7zOTPmdv56RAjxZYYh4mi6NF8qTGqyw15IYsyRckp0uSyYyBl0XzFAGbKv6Y_awbQNW6V5xaFwgH9iBs/s640/blogger-image--1790726518.jpg" /></a></div>Merehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16289111250237055565noreply@blogger.com0Bay Ridge Brooklyn40.619064 -74.035049tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4251774341258358959.post-61840706249659520702012-10-13T22:36:00.001-04:002012-10-13T22:37:38.620-04:00Candy corn from the Purl BeeWorking on my first knit candy corn from the Purl Bee!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihQX0_2LIUi_zdv8uBLE-ySdk8iLJuNni8XNQFYTNZOO2y1M6txtXma5MZOZLC331DC4qTTuGXQ-RZlQkaBlUTb-baP3LNiu7JFzj2Gh38iA2fL5-QEUQAE4QlqUhxhyphenhyphenuoemp14ccVd-c/s640/blogger-image-1531342421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihQX0_2LIUi_zdv8uBLE-ySdk8iLJuNni8XNQFYTNZOO2y1M6txtXma5MZOZLC331DC4qTTuGXQ-RZlQkaBlUTb-baP3LNiu7JFzj2Gh38iA2fL5-QEUQAE4QlqUhxhyphenhyphenuoemp14ccVd-c/s640/blogger-image-1531342421.jpg" /></a></div>Merehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16289111250237055565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4251774341258358959.post-14367131358184466162012-10-13T20:07:00.001-04:002012-10-13T20:07:26.462-04:00Fall table runnerThis is a Fall-themed table runner that I have been working on for a few weeks now. I am doing simple stitch in the ditch quilting and hope to put the binding on tomorrow. A big thank you to <a href="http://sweetdieseldesigns.com/">Sweet Diesel Designs</a> for hosting this Quilt-Along. I really didn't think about the time crunch I would be putting myself under before I joined the Quilt-Along because I was completely mesmerized by the pattern by Anna Maria Horner for Janome. She's my fave, and I knew I had to make this quilt to get me back to the sewing machine. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I wanted to photograph the quilt outside because I really love the look of the outdoor photos that other people have taken of their beautiful finished Patchwork prism quilts. So with the help of some of my coworkers, we headed to the Hudson River. Unfortunately, it was way too windy!</span><br />

I also am still working on the first row of the Rockin' Robin QAL, but I think I'll finish up tonight. My fabric:<br />

I had no business buying them because I have too much fabric to begin with, but I think they are going to make a lovely quilt. The background fabric is a Kaffe Fassett that I bought for a tile quilt that I am abandoning after two blocks due to its labor intensiveness. The blocks will be framed. <br />
<br />
Any-hoo, the first row blocks are dhaping up to look like this:<br />

I love the idea of breaking projects into smaller, sort of time-controlled elements. I look forward to seeing what all of the blogger-sewists have come up with!Merehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16289111250237055565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4251774341258358959.post-88160663501059606512011-07-01T10:46:00.000-04:002011-07-01T10:46:44.147-04:00I am doing this!<a href="http://freshlypieced.blogspot.com/" title="150px Summer Sampler Series Badge by Fresh Lemons : Faith, on Flickr"><img alt="150px Summer Sampler Series Badge" height="226px" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5116/5884123425_bb2191c47c_m.jpg" width="150px" /></a><br />
