Skywalker finished!

I finished this shawl this morning! I am also trying out my blocking blocks for the first time. The lace weight yarn dries very fast. There are definitely some flaws with this shawl, but the hand dyed Malabrigo yarn helps to hide them!

What sewing?

I have completely abandoned my sewing. I am too obsessed with knitting to even pick up the pieces of the quilt that I laid out on the study floor like a month ago. I took two days of classes at Vogue Knitting Live this weekend at the Times Square Marriott Hotel. I've done nothing today except knit this tiny piece of lace shawl that I've been working on what time completely absorbed with.

This is my haul from the knitting show this weekend.

New year, new projects!

This year it is all about using up the stash. I am making a commitment not to buy any new craft supplies, unless I have saved up for them, of course. Or I use my gift certificate that I got for Christmas from my parents to Brooklyn general. It's all about budgeting in 2013 for me. I have already started by making new placemats and a centerpiece for our dining room table. I made new throw pillows for the living room, and with the leftover fabric I made some placemats. I used leftover yarn from projects and made pom-poms and put them in a glass bowl for the centerpiece. It looks cute and I didn't spend any money. So I'm pretty happy about that.

I am also trying to use up my fabric stash. So this year I am committing to making a series of scrap quilts. I have started this one which I think is pretty cute from a book called Scrap Republic by Emily Cier. This is where I usually get stuck. I love cutting, and I love arranging all the colors, but then when it comes to the sewing, I get a little tired and stop working. But I can't leave it on the floor forever because Groucho will mess it all up. I will have to turn my attention to it once I am done with the placemats.

Candy corn from the Purl Bee

Working on my first knit candy corn from the Purl Bee!

Fall table runner

This is a Fall-themed table runner that I have been working on for a few weeks now. I am doing simple stitch in the ditch quilting and hope to put the binding on tomorrow. We are halfway through October as it is, so time is running out on Fall!

Photo shoot!

My Patchwork Prism quilt is done! A big thank you to Sweet Diesel Designs for hosting this Quilt-Along. I really didn't think about the time crunch I would be putting myself under before I joined the Quilt-Along because I was completely mesmerized by the pattern by Anna Maria Horner for Janome. She's my fave, and I knew I had to make this quilt to get me back to the sewing machine.
I wanted to photograph the quilt outside because I really love the look of the outdoor photos that other people have taken of their beautiful finished Patchwork prism quilts. So with the help of some of my coworkers, we headed to the Hudson River. Unfortunately, it was way too windy!

So we took it to the garden at St. Luke's and got some nice shots:

I made the whole quilt from fabric in my stash, including the back. The only thing I bought was the batting!

Here's where we got arty!

It was a lot of fun, and I am very happy that I joined the Quilt-Along. All of the quilts are beautiful; it is so fun to see how everyone executed the pattern.

Patchwork Prism Quilt

Hi! I have not been keeping up with my posts--I've been mostly knitting--but when I saw this Quilt-A-Long, I knew I had to dust off my sewing machine.  I will be posting more photos and officially entering, but here is a photo of the finished product. Still life, with dog.

The next two Summer Sampler Series Blocks!

Block #10...

And Block #11, which I actually sewed together the wrong way, but I like how it looks and I am pretty lazy, so I am going to leave it as is.

The last block will be tomorrow!

In over my head

Okay, so the Rockin' Robin seems to require more of a time commitment than I can handle right now, and as much as I hate to admit it, I think I have to bow out. Maybe I can pick up the quilt later because I do like the blocks and designs, so we'll see. I am going to join in this Sew Mama Sew Quilt Along. It's a block a month. That I think I can handle!

Rockin' Robin

So I finished the first row, for which I made six blocks because I wanted two blocks of each of my stash bags--aqua, blue, and green--but because of time, I think I am going to cut it to four for the next row. So I'll have 2 blocks to make something of, maybe.  In any case, the finished row:

I  finished my first Summer Sampler QAL block last night. here it is!

I also am still working on the first row of the Rockin' Robin QAL, but I think I'll finish up tonight.  My fabric:

These are from scrap bags I bought from Purl Soho online. I had no business buying them because I have too much fabric to begin with, but I think they are going to make a lovely quilt. The background fabric is a Kaffe Fassett that I bought for a tile quilt that I am abandoning after two blocks due to its labor intensiveness. The blocks will be framed.

Any-hoo, the first row blocks are dhaping up to look like this:

I am also doing this one!

There are so many talented people in the quilting and sewing community online, and in an effort to get to "know" some of them, I am also going to participate in this Qulit-Aong.

Fresh Poppy Design

I love the idea of breaking projects into smaller, sort of time-controlled elements.  I look forward to seeing what all of the blogger-sewists have come up with!

I am doing this!
